Is It Love? Part IV

When Paul said that love does not boast what did he have in mind?

A person who indulges in boasting often makes a lot of noise over trivial accomplishments. That is not to say we should not be proud of our accomplishments. A healthy self-esteem comes from having good success in endeavours that we undertake.

But if we truly love our partner there will be no room for boasting because boasting is really a self-centered action. It's putting oneself first at all times, in all situations. It is what id known as the "me first attitude".

When being boastful is focusing on oneself and accomplishments making everything "me, me, me" how can there be any room left in ones thoughts and heart for their spouse?

While caring for our needs is important, it is not the only thing in life. For indeed Jesus said that there is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving.

Try putting your spouse in the foreground and see if it doesn't make a difference in your home life. Practice service to your spouse in even the smallest of details. You might just be surprised at the blessings it will send your way. And if putting your spouse's desires first once in a while shocks them, perhaps some self- examination on why that is will be useful.
